The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows Alberta to nominate a limited number of qualified candidates from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s Express Entry system.Candidates who have demonstrated strong ties to Alberta or who can help support the government’s economic development and diversification priorities may be asked to submit an application.
International graduates from Canadian post-secondary institutions may also be asked to submit an application under this stream. International graduates who graduated from other provinces may also be eligible to apply under this stream as long as they can demonstrate strong ties to Alberta.

The Liberal government is looking to ease some rules to make it easier for international students who have been "shortchanged" by express entry to obtain permanent residency, says Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister John McCallum.
CHANGES COMING FOR CANDIAN CITIZENSHIP ALSO: The Liberals are moving forward with reversing some changes made to the Citizenship Act that were made under the Tories.
Bill C-6 proposes to count 50 per cent of the time a foreign national spends in Canada before receiving permanent residency toward Canadian citizenship — a move that would also help international students.

Effective immediately, the temporary pause on application intake has ended and the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is now accepting new applications under all AINP streams and categories. During the pause, the AINP was successful in reducing the application queue by almost half, with fewer than 5,000 applications remaining to be processed.
Current applicants to the AINP with existing applications will remain in the queue awaiting assessment. Please visit the AINP processing and inventory page for regular updates on application processing and inventory status.
In order to manage the volume of applications going forward, we may stop accepting new applications in the future if the program is oversubscribed. We will monitor the program closely and look for opportunities to improve the program as necessary in the future. Any updates to the program will be posted on this website.

Calgary, June 28, 2012 — Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney today announced the latest step in re-designing Canada’s economic immigration system.
Effective July 1st, 2012, Citizenship and Immigration Canada will place a temporary pause on new applications to the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and federal Immigrant Investor Program (IIP).
“We have been making lots of changes to our economic immigration system,” said Minister Kenney. “We will take the next six months to do a lot of the heavy lifting to get us closer to a fast and flexible immigration system.”
